According to customs statistics, China imported 29,000 tons of acetone in March 2026, a decrease of 12,800 tons (30.53%) compared with the 41,800 tons imported in the same month of the previous year.
From January to March 2026, China’s cumulative acetone imports totaled 126,500 tons, an increase of 12,700 tons compared to the 113,800 tons recorded during the same period last year, representing a rise of 11.19%.
Looking at monthly arrivals, shipments from Saudi Arabia in March arrived early at the end of February; overall import volumes in March were limited, and imports were hampered by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz; no shipments arrived from Japan, Singapore or Taiwan, China; Thailand maintained a steady flow of imports in March.
From January to March 2026, import volumes from China’s main sources increased compared to the previous year, though the overall growth rate slowed, rising by 11.19% year-on-year; during the same period, imports from Taiwan, China fell by 83.83% year-on-year, whilst those from Singapore decreased by 23.67%.
From January to March 2026, Thailand was China’s primary import source, accounting for 38.97% of the total, followed by Saudi Arabia at 34.88%; transactions with these two regions were settled in Renminbi. South Korea accounted for 21.28%, Taiwan, China for 2.46%, and Singapore for 2.4%.
The trade modes for acetone imports were predominantly general trade and processing trade (either in-bond or out-of-bond). Isopropanol enterprises predominantly opted for processing trade (in-bond or out-of-bond). Among the major import source regions mentioned above, 7,308.89 tons were imported into China via processing trade (in-bond or out-of-bond), accounting for 5.78% of the total; these imports were primarily made by enterprises registered in Shandong, Jiangsu and Guangdong provinces.
