National Energy Administration announces achievements: From 2019 to 2025, the China's cumulative newly proven geological reserves of oil and natural gas exceeded 10 billion tons and 10 trillion cubic meters

People's Daily Overseas Edition, February 24 - The National Energy Administration recently announced the top ten landmark achievements in national oil and gas exploration and development in 2025. Data shows that in 2025, domestic crude oil output reached 216 million tons, a record high; natural gas output exceeded 260 billion cubic meters, with the equivalent amount exceeding 200 million tons for the first time. From 2019 to 2025, the country's cumulative newly proven geological reserves of oil and natural gas exceeded 10 billion tons and 10 trillion cubic meters, consolidating the foundation for sustained stable and increased production; crude oil output has remained above 200 million tons for four consecutive years, and natural gas output has increased by more than 10 billion cubic meters for nine consecutive years, exceeding the targets of the "Seven-Year Action Plan" for vigorously enhancing oil and gas exploration and development efforts. In 2025, a number of outstanding achievements were made in the field of oil and gas exploration: the equivalent oil and gas output in the Ordos Basin exceeded 100 million tons, with crude oil output standing at 38 million tons for two consecutive years and natural gas output reaching nearly 80 billion cubic meters. The natural gas output in the Sichuan Basin exceeded 80 billion cubic meters, with the increment accounting for more than 40% of the national total, among which shale gas output was about 27 billion cubic meters, strongly promoting the construction of the Sichuan-Chongqing 100-billion-cubic-meter natural gas production base. Offshore crude oil output exceeded 66 million tons, natural gas output was about 30 billion cubic meters, and the equivalent oil and gas output reached 90 million tons, making the role of offshore energy fortress increasingly prominent. Deep scientific exploration wells at 10,000 meters have repeatedly broken records, and the "Deep Earth Project" is advancing efficiently. In 2025, PetroChina successfully completed drilling of the deep Tako 1 Well in the Tarim Basin, with a total depth of 10,910 meters, discovering oil and gas in the 10,000-meter deep layer for the first time; the deep Chuanke 1 Well deployed in the Sichuan Basin has a current drilling depth of over 10,000 meters, setting a world record for the largest-diameter 10,000-meter deep well. Xinjiang Huying Company actively promoted the exploration and development of deep resources, deploying the risk exploration well Xin'an 1 Well in the Junggar Basin, with a total drilling depth of over 10,000 meters.
