According to monitoring data from SunSirs' commodity price analysis system: the price of activated charcoal was 12,883 RMB/ton at the beginning of the week, and rose to 12,933 RMB/ton by the end of the week, an increase of 0.39%.

Market Analysis

Domestic prices for coconut shell activated charcoal rose last week. The ex-factory price of coconut shell activated charcoal for water purification in East China ranged from 9,500 to 13,000 RMB/ton.  For columnar coal-based activated charcoal with an iodine value of around 1,000, the price was between 8,200 and 9,500 RMB/ton. Since coconut shell char was classified as a hazardous material under new regulations in January, raw material imports had been significantly affected, leading to a substantial decrease in supply. Coconut shell activated charcoal manufacturers in various domestic production areas had een greatly impacted by raw material shortages.

Natural disasters and policy changes in major Southeast Asian coconut-producing countries have led to a shortage of coconut shell charcoal, resulting in price increases. Demand for coconut shell activated charcoal is strong in areas such as water treatment, air purification, and sodium-ion batteries. Furthermore, extended shipping times, increased warehousing costs, and stricter environmental regulations have driven up import costs, further supporting the price increase.

Market outlook

Due to tight supply of domestic coconut shell activated charcoal raw materials and increasing costs, activated charcoal prices are expected to fluctuate at high levels in the short term.
