SunSirs: Eurostat: EU Crude Oil Imports Down 8.8% in First Nine Months of 2025
January 20 2026 13:48:13SunSirs(Selena)

On January 19 (Monday), data released by Eurostat showed that in the first nine months of 2025, EU crude oil imports decreased by 8.8% year-on-year; at the same time, affected by lower international oil prices, the value of crude oil imports fell even more significantly, reaching 18.3%.

In contrast, EU liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports increased sharply by 25.9%, while the increase in import value was even more pronounced, climbing by 36.1% year-on-year.

In the third quarter of last year alone, 59.9% of the EU's LNG imports came from the United States; despite sanctions, 12.7% still came from Russia, and another 7.7% from Algeria.

Regarding pipeline natural gas, Norway remains the EU's largest supplier, accounting for 51.8% of total EU pipeline natural gas imports; Algeria and the United Kingdom followed closely, accounting for 14.6% and 13.4% respectively.

In terms of crude oil supply, Norway is also the EU's largest crude oil supplier. According to Eurostat data, the country accounted for 14.6% of EU crude oil imports in the third quarter of last year; the United States and Kazakhstan ranked second and third, accounting for 14.55% and 12.2% respectively.

In the first nine months of this year, EU crude oil imports from Russia declined significantly, and this trend is likely to intensify further in the fourth quarter of 2025.

During the same period, the value of EU crude oil imports from Russia also decreased from 5.8 billion euros in 2024 to 3.8 billion euros in 2025, equivalent to a reduction from $6.74 billion to $4.42 billion.

Earlier this month, the EU announced that it would lower the price cap on Russian crude oil imports to reduce Russia's energy export revenue.

Starting in February this year, if Russian crude oil shipments want to obtain Western insurance services, their export price cap will be set at $44.10 per barrel.
