Price trend:

According to SunSirs' commodity price analysis system, acetic acid prices continued to rise in December. As of December 30th, the price was 2,750 RMB/ton, an increase of 200 RMB/ton compared to the price of 2,550 RMB/ton at the beginning of the month, representing a 7.84% increase.

Market Analysis

In December, the acetic acid market continued its strong upward trend. Although some manufacturers restarted their facilities during the month, unplanned production cuts at other plants, coupled with the slow recovery of operations at Jiangsu Sope, resulted in relatively low acetic acid operating rates.  Meanwhile, downstream buyers purchased according to their needs, creating a positive market trading atmosphere. As a result, inventories at manufacturers continued to decline, and producers maintained a strong stance on pricing. Driven by the supply side, acetic acid prices continued to rise.

The methanol feedstock market is experiencing strong but volatile fluctuations. As of December 30th, the average price in the domestic market was 2,200 RMB/ton, a 3.53% increase compared to the price of 2,125 RMB/ton at the beginning of the month. Low inventory levels in methanol port markets were providing support for prices. However, high operating rates in the inland market and downstream buyers primarily purchasing for immediate needs were limiting further price increases.  With supply and demand in a state of equilibrium, the methanol market continued its volatile and consolidating trend.

Market Forecast:

According to analysts at SunSirs, the acetic acid market on the supply side still has maintenance plans in place, and enterprise inventories may continue to decline. With downstream companies stocking up before the Spring Festival, the market trading atmosphere is expected to be positive, and strong positive factors are supporting the market. It is expected that the acetic acid market will continue its upward trend next month, with specific attention to be paid to downstream demand.
