SunSirs: Week 51, 2025: Domestic and Global Agricultural Market Dynamics

In the 51st week of 2025, domestic prices of eggs and fruits saw a slight increase, while pork and vegetable prices declined slightly. International prices of most major agricultural commodities fell marginally.

I. Trading Situation at Domestic Fresh and Live Agricultural Product Wholesale Markets

According to monitoring by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs,in the 51st week of 2025(December 15–21, 2025, the same below), the "Agricultural Products Wholesale Price Index 200" stood at 130.63 (with 2015 set as 100), up 0.91 points from the previous week and 9.61 points higher year on year; the "Wholesale Price Index for 'Vegetable Basket' Products" came in at 133.56 (with 2015 set as 100), rising 1.05 points from the previous week and 11.37 points higher year on year.

1.The decline in pork prices narrowed, while egg prices saw a slight increase. The weekly average price of pork at the wholesale market was 17.51 CNY per kilogram, down 0.4% from the previous week. The rate of decline narrowed by 0.3 percentage points compared to the previous week, and was 23.7% lower year-on-year. The weekly average price of beef at the wholesale market was 65.89 CNY per kilogram, virtually unchanged from the previous week but up 9.4% year-on-year. The weekly average price of mutton at the wholesale market was 62.74 CNY per kilogram, virtually unchanged from the previous week but up 5.7% year-on-year. The weekly average price of broiler chickens at the wholesale market was 17.69 CNY per kilogram, up 1.0% from the previous week and 0.7% higher year-on-year. The weekly average price of eggs at the wholesale market was 7.41 CNY per kilogram, up 0.3% from the previous week but 27.4% lower year-on-year.

2.The average price of vegetables declined slightly.Among the 28 vegetable varieties closely monitored, the weekly average price was 5.91 CNY per kilogram, down 0.3% from the previous week—a reversal after three consecutive weeks of increases—and up 17.5% year on year. By variety, prices fell for 14 vegetables and rose for 14. Among these, the prices of cauliflower, lettuce, romaine lettuce, and rapeseed fell by 8.2%, 7.0%, 6.8%, and 5.0% respectively from the previous week, while the price declines of other varieties were all within 5%. Meanwhile, the prices of green onions, winter melon, tomatoes, pumpkin, eggplant, and green peppers rose by 9.9%, 7.8%, 7.6%, 7.6%, 7.3%, and 5.7% respectively from the previous week, with price increases for other varieties remaining within 5%.

3. Prices of various aquatic products rose slightly. The weekly average wholesale prices per kilogram for silver carp, bighead carp, common carp, common carp, large hairtail, and large yellow croaker were RMB 10.29, RMB 16.64, RMB 19.37, RMB 13.93, RMB 39.87, and RMB 44.11, respectively, up 2.0%, 1.2%, 0.4%, 0.3%, 0.2%, and 0.1% from the previous week, respectively.;Grass carp was priced at RMB 16.43 per kilogram, down 0.2% from the previous week.

4. The average price of fruits rose slightly. The weekly average price of the six key monitored fruit varieties was 7.63 CNY per kilogram, up 1.6% from the previous week and 6.6% higher than the same period last year. By variety, the weekly average prices of watermelon, Kyoho grapes, bananas, Asian pears, and pineapples rose by 3.7%, 3.3%, 2.5%, 0.7%, and 0.3%, respectively, compared to the previous week; while the weekly average price of Fuji apples fell by 0.2% compared to the previous week.

II. International Bulk Agricultural Products

1.Most major agricultural commodity prices declined slightly month-on-month.The weekly average closing prices for the nearest futures contracts of wheat, soybean oil, soybeans, and corn on the Chicago Board of Trade in the United States wereUS$188, US$1,068, US$389, and US$174 per ton, respectively, down 4.1%, 4.1%, 2.8%, and 0.9% month-on-month, and down 5.8%, up 14.1%, up9.2%, and down 0.3% year-on-year, respectively; the International Cotton Index (SM grade)was 73.56 cents per pound(US$1,622 per ton), down 0.3% month-on-month and 7.0% year-on-year.

2. Prices of rice, palm oil, and raw sugar rose slightly month-on-month. The weekly average ex-ship prices in Bangkok for Thai 100%B-grade rice and rice with a 5% broken-rice rate were US$444 per ton and US$429 per ton, respectively, up 2.9% and 3.0% from the previous week, but down 17.7% and 18.4% year-on-year. Meanwhile, the weekly average landed price of Malaysian palm oil at the Port of Rotterdam, Netherlands, was US$1,285 per ton, up 0.3% from the previous week but down 7.6% year-on-year. The weekly average price of raw sugar from the International Sugar Organization was 14.56 U.S. cents per pound (US$321 per ton), up 0.2% from the previous week but down 23.2% year-on-year.
