SunSirs: Analysis of China's Grain Imports by Country for January-November

According to the latest customs data, China imported a total of 129.7 million metric tons of wheat, rice, corn, and soybeans from January to November 2025, representing a year-on-year decrease of 11.9%. The import value amounted to RMB 458.13 billion, down 14.2% compared to the previous year.

Overview of China's Grain Imports by Variety and Country, January-November:

1. Wheat

China imported 239,700 metric tons of wheat in November, up 95,700 metric tons month-on-month (66.43%) and 189,700 metric tons year-on-year (379.22%). By origin: Canada supplied 206,900 tons (86.32%), Russia 20,000 tons, and Australia 11,000 tons.

From January to November 2025, total wheat imports reached 3.2879 million tons, down 7.5826 million tons or 69.75% year-on-year. By origin: Canada supplied 2.2519 million tons (68.49%), Australia at 930,000 tons (28.3%); Kazakhstan at 55,800 tons (1.7%); and Russia at 20,000 tons (1.5%).

2. Rice

China imported 228,200 tons of paddy rice and milled rice in November, down 12,300 tons (5.12%) month-on-month; a year-on-year increase of 56,700 tons, or 33.07%. By origin: Myanmar supplied 112,300 tons (49.2%), Vietnam 42,400 tons (18.6%), Thailand 39,000 tons (17.09%), and other sources totaled 34,500 tons (15.1%).

From January to November 2025, total imports of paddy and milled rice reached 2.7432 million tons, an increase of 1.4929 million tons or 119.4% year-on-year. By origin: Myanmar supplied 898,800 metric tons (32.76%), Vietnam 664,800 metric tons (24.23%), Thailand 615,000 metric tons (22.42%), India 269,300 metric tons (9.82%), and others collectively 295,400 metric tons (10.77%).

China's rice exports in November totaled 224,500 metric tons, up 9,800 metric tons month-on-month (4.56%) and 106,400 metric tons year-on-year (89.99%).

From January to November 2025, China's total rice exports reached 1.4576 million tons, an increase of 368,400 tons or 33.82%. By destination: Turkey accounted for 165,000 tons (11.32%), Papua New Guinea: 124,400 tons (8.54%), Libya: 100,000 tons (6.86%), Japan: 97,800 tons (6.71%), South Korea: 89,800 tons (6.16%), Egypt: 85,100 tons (5.84%), Cameroon: 81,000 tons (5.56%), and other countries combined at 714,400 metric tons (49.01%).

3. Corn

China imported 554,900 metric tons of corn in November, marking a month-on-month increase of 195,800 metric tons (54.54%) and a year-on-year rise of 259,200 metric tons (87.66%). By origin: Brazil supplied 478,600 metric tons (86.26%), while Myanmar contributed 58,900 metric tons (10.6%).

From January to November 2025, corn imports totaled 1.8477 million tons, down 1.15707 million tons (86.23%) year-on-year. By origin: Brazil supplied 1.019 million tons (55.15%); Russia supplied 338,600 tons (18.33%); Ukraine: 184,800 tons (12.5%); Myanmar: 203,000 tons (10.98%).

4. Sorghum

China imported 485,400 tons of sorghum in November, up 127,800 tons (35.75%) month-on-month; a decrease of 243,800 tons or 33.43% year-on-year. Argentina supplied 320,700 tons (66.09%), Australia supplied 164,300 tons (33.84%), and other sources collectively supplied 300 tons (0.07%).

From January to November 2025, total sorghum imports reached 4.4963 million tons, down 3.7897 million tons (45.74%) year-on-year. Imports from Australia accounted for 2.1613 million tons (48.07%), Argentina for 1.5259 million tons (33.94%), with other countries accounting for 809,100 metric tons (17.99%).

5. Barley

China imported 840,000 metric tons of barley in November, down 307,000 metric tons (26.76%) month-on-month. Year-on-year, imports increased by 119,400 metric tons (16.58%). By origin: Canada supplied 329,600 tons (39.24%), Australia 122,700 tons (14.61%), France 104,500 tons (12.44%), Russia 90,600 tons (10.79%), Argentina 65,600 tons (7.81%), with other countries collectively accounting for 126,900 metric tons (15.11%).

From January to November 2025, barley imports totaled 9.807 million metric tons, a decrease of 3.6609 million metric tons (27.18%) compared to the same period last year. Among these, Australia supplied 5.7151 million metric tons (58.28%), Canada supplied 1.2536 million tons (12.78%), France contributed 882,400 tons (9%), and other countries collectively provided 1.9559 million tons (19.94%).

6. Soybeans

China imported 8.1072 million tons of soybeans in November, a decrease of 1.3753 million tons (14.5%) compared to the previous month. Year-on-year, imports increased by 953,100 metric tons, a rise of 13.32%. By origin: Brazil supplied 5.8529 million metric tons (72.19%), Argentina supplied 1.7769 million metric tons (21.92%), and other countries collectively supplied 477,400 metric tons (5.89%).

From January to November 2025, total soybean imports reached 103.7758 million tons, an increase of 6.6854 million tons (6.89%) year-on-year. Brazil supplied 76.6737 million tons (73.88%), the United States supplied 16.801 million tons (16.19%), and other sources collectively supplied 10.301 million tons (9.93%).

7. Soybean Oil

China imported 51,200 metric tons of soybean oil in November, a month-on-month increase of 29,600 metric tons (136.42%) but a year-on-year decrease of 222,800 metric tons (827.22%). Argentina supplied 30,000 metric tons (58.56%), Russia supplied 11,200 metric tons (21.77%), and other sources collectively supplied 10,100 metric tons (19.67%).

From January to November 2025, soybean oil imports totaled 339,300 metric tons, an increase of 65,300 metric tons (23.85%) compared to the same period last year. Argentina accounted for 148,800 tons (43.85%), Brazil for 92,900 tons (27.37%), Russia for 92,800 tons (27.34%), and others totaled 4,900 tons (1.44%).

8. 24° Refined Palm Oil

China's imports of 24° refined palm oil in November reached 328,000 metric tons, unchanged from the previous month. This represents a year-on-year increase of 159,900 metric tons, or 95.08%. Indonesia supplied 261,400 metric tons (79.69%), while Malaysia contributed 66,600 metric tons (20.31%).

From January to November 2025, China imported a total of 2.2671 million metric tons of 24° refined palm oil, down 203,200 metric tons (8.23%) year-on-year. Indonesia supplied 1.9168 million metric tons (84.55%), while other sources collectively contributed 350,300 metric tons (15.45%).
