SunSirs: China's Largest Offshore Oilfield Surpasses 40 Million Tons of Annual Oil and Gas Production, Setting New Record
December 22 2025 10:23:59()

Established in 1965, the Bohai Oilfield stands as the cradle of China's offshore petroleum industry and remains the nation's largest and highest-yielding offshore oilfield. It currently operates over 60 active oil and gas fields and more than 200 production facilities, with cumulative crude oil production exceeding 600 million tons.

On December 21, CNOOC announced that annual oil and gas production at China's largest offshore oilfield—the Bohai Oilfield—has surpassed 40 million tons, setting a new historical record. This is the Bohai Zhong 26-6 oilfield operated by CNOOC. Photo by Feng Hao

A representative from CNOOC's Tianjin Branch stated that in 2025, production capacity construction at the Bohai Oilfield accelerated comprehensively, with annual drilling and completion operations reaching a record high. This efficiently drove the rapid construction and commissioning of multiple key projects, including the Keli 10-2 and Bohai Zhong 26-6 oilfields, each with an annual production capacity exceeding 100 million tons.

Concurrently, technical teams successfully implemented secondary enhancement projects at the Suizhong 36-1/Luda 5-2 oilfields, revitalizing these decades-old fields. In 2025, mature oilfields produced over 32 million tons of crude annually, firmly stabilizing production fundamentals.

The Bohai Oilfield also accelerated digital and intelligent transformation alongside green and low-carbon development, achieving major breakthroughs in domestic production of key equipment. It successfully commissioned the first domestically produced shallow-water subsea production system. China's first offshore intelligent oilfield project—Qinhuangdao 32-6—empowers traditional oil and gas production through technologies enabling unmanned/minimally manned operations and coordinated production management. Additionally, the nation's largest offshore oilfield cluster shore power application project has been fully completed, with over 80% of oilfields now connected to shore power, replacing traditional self-generated electricity with clean power.

Statistics indicate that during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, offshore crude oil has become a vital growth engine for China's oil and gas production, accounting for over 60% of the nation's new oil output for five consecutive years. Among these, Bohai oilfields have achieved an average annual growth rate of 5% in oil and gas production over the past five years, with their crude oil increment contributing nearly 40% of the national total. This positions them as the core force supporting China's efforts to increase oil and gas reserves and production.
