Macroeconomics
1. Fed Rate Cut: Early Thursday morning Beijing time, the Federal Reserve announced a 25 basis point rate cut as expected, lowering the target range for the federal funds rate to 3.50%-3.75%. This is the Fed's third rate cut this year in 2025, bringing the total cuts to 75 basis points.
2. UAE Rate Cut: The Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates announced a 25 basis point cut to its benchmark interest rate, bringing it to 3.65%.
3. Canadian Interest Rates: On Wednesday, at its final monetary policy meeting of 2025, the Bank of Canada maintained its benchmark interest rate at 2.25%, as expected.
4. Brazilian Interest Rates: The Central Bank of Brazil's Monetary Policy Committee decided on the evening of December 10th to maintain the country's benchmark interest rate at 15% per annum, in line with previous market expectations.
Agricultural and Sideline Products
1. [Soybeans] China Grain Reserves Corporation (Sinograin) will auction 512,500 tons of imported soybeans on December 11th, its first such auction in three months. Sinograin previously auctioned 22,500 tons of soybeans on September 11th.
2. [Sugar] On December 10th, the spot market price for new sugar in Guangxi was 5,300-5,380 RMB/ton (ex-factory price at sugar mills in Nanning, Guigang, Liuzhou, Hechi, Laibin, and Fangchenggang), a decrease of 20-30 RMB/ton compared to the price on the 9th. Industrial inventory of new sugar was 44,500 tons, a decrease of 182,900 tons year-on-year.
3. [Corn] The USDA's December supply and demand report showed that the estimated corn planting area for the 2025/26 US marketing year is 98.7 million acres, unchanged from the November estimate; the estimated harvested corn area is 90 million acres, also unchanged from the November estimate. The 2025/26 corn yield is estimated at 186 bushels per acre, unchanged from the November estimate.
4. [Rice] Indonesian Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaiman stated that the country has stopped importing rice due to a record high of 3.7 million tons in its rice stocks, the highest level since the Bulog was established in 1967. Normally, the country's rice stocks are around 2 million tons.
5. [Rapeseed] The European Council for Grains and Feed Processing (COCERAL) forecasts that rapeseed production in the EU and UK is expected to reach 21.8 million tons in 2026, consistent with the 2025 production level.
6. [Soybeans] Data released by SECEX shows that Brazilian soybean exports in early December were significantly higher than the same period last year. From December 1st to 5th, Brazil exported 971,000 tons of soybeans, compared to 2.006 million tons in December of last year.
7. [Soybeans] ANEC estimates that Brazil’s soybean exports in December 2025 will reach 3.33 million tons, up from 2.81 million tons a week earlier, and up 126.5% from 1.47 million tons in the same period of 2024.
