Price trend:
Last week, hot rolled coil futures traded within a narrow range, and market sentiment for galvanized steel sheets and coils remained cautious. Downstream buyers continued to focus on essential purchases, resulting in generally average transaction volumes. According to the SunSirs' commodity market analysis system, as of December 5th, the average price of galvanized steel sheets and coils in the domestic market was 4,132.50 RMB/ton, a slight decrease of 0.24% compared to the beginning of the week.
Market Analysis
Fundamentals: Last week, the capacity utilization rate of galvanized steel sheets and coils remained at a high level. Steel mills reported that the pace of accepting new orders in December was slow. To maintain production line capacity, some steel mills were shifting production from specialty steel to general-purpose steel. Factory inventories continued to be transferred to the market, but due to limited end-user demand, the reduction in social inventory was slow.
According to the latest data compiled by SunSirs, the overall operating rate of galvanized steel sheets last week was 80.27%; the capacity utilization rate was 66.09%, an increase of 0.96% compared to last week; the weekly output was 942,600 tons, an increase of 13,600 tons compared to the week before last; steel mill inventory was 504,500 tons, a decrease of 4,600 tons compared to the week before last; social inventory was 1,323,700 tons, a decrease of 400 tons compared to the week before last; and total inventory was 1,828,200 tons, a decrease of 5,000 tons compared tothe week before last.
Industry News: On November 28, 2025, the Korean Trade Commission announced (Case Investigation No. 23-2025-9) that, at the request of Korean producers Dongkuk CM Co., Ltd., KG Steel Co., Ltd., and SeAH CM Co., Ltd., it had initiated an anti-dumping investigation into galvanized cold rolled steel originating from China. The dumping investigation period is expected to be from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025, and the injury investigation period is expected to be from January 1, 2021, to June 30, 2025.
Market Forecast:
Overall, the inventories of galvanized steel sheets and coils remained high, still exceeding levels from the same period in previous years. Market demand was generally weak.
