According to China Chemical News, Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC), Kuwait's state-owned sulfur producer, has set the December Kuwait Sulfur Price (KSP) at $495 FOB (per ton, same below), marking a $95 increase from October.
Based on current freight rates, the December KSP CIF price to China is estimated at $517–521. On November 27, freight assessments for shipments of 30,000–35,000 tons were: $22–24 to southern Chinese ports and $24–26 to inland Chinese ports.
Following three consecutive months of substantial monthly increases, the December KSP price marks a $5 rise from the previous peak of $490 FOB set in June 2022.
This announcement follows Qatar Energy Marketing's November 30 declaration of a $495 FOB price for its December Qatar Sulphur Price (QSP), maintaining parity with the previous month.
Sulfur prices have remained robust this year. New sulfur production capacity in Morocco for fertilizer manufacturing and in Indonesia for nickel ore smelting has come online. Concurrently, geopolitical conflicts have damaged oil and gas processing facilities, significantly reducing Russian sulfur output and tightening supply. Recent price increases have made sulfur costs difficult for many fertilizer producers, sulfuric acid sellers, and chemical companies to bear. However, demand contraction has not yet been sufficient to offset the upward price trend.
As an integrated internet platform providing benchmark prices, on December 4, the benchmark price of sulfur from SunSirs was 3894.33 RMB/ton, an increase of 1.30% compared with the beginning of the month (3844.33 RMB/ton).
