Significant progress has been achieved in phosphate ore exploration in northern Jiangsu, with preliminary estimates indicating inferred phosphate ore resources exceeding 9 million tons. This development is expected to surpass the province's 14th Five-Year Plan targets for phosphate exploration.
Since the launch of the new round of mineral exploration breakthrough strategy, the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Natural Resources and the Jiangsu Provincial Bureau of Geology have leveraged provincial fiscal funds to coordinate and deploy phosphate ore surveys in areas such as Shuyang, Suqian, and Ganyu, Lianyungang.
Through comprehensive analysis of regional geological and geophysical data, the Jiangsu Geological Bureau selected scientific exploration techniques and methods to investigate the distribution characteristics of regional phosphate ore deposits. In Ganyu, five out of six completed drill holes revealed industrial-grade phosphate ore bodies. Additionally, industrial-grade crystalline graphite ore bodies were discovered for the first time in the Jinping Formation strata of this area.
In Shuyang, three new industrial ore bodies were delineated, with thicknesses ranging from 1.10 to 4.20 meters and P₂O₅ grades between 10.56% and 13.71%.
Preliminary estimates indicate additional inferred phosphate ore resources of 1.14 million tons in Shuyang and 8 million tons in Ganyu.
As a strategic mineral, phosphorus finds extensive applications in critical sectors such as agriculture, chemical industry, and new energy. Jiangsu, a major economic and industrial province, will gain additional resource security for the sustainable development of its phosphorus chemical industry through these discoveries. Jiangsu is striving to achieve further breakthroughs in mineral exploration, contributing more to the “increased reserves and production” of key minerals.
