According to China Chemical News, at the recent quarterly press conference held by the National Energy Administration, the Development Planning Department reported that nationwide energy investment has maintained rapid growth this year. Investment in key energy projects reached RMB 1.97 trillion in the first eight months, marking an 18.2% year-on-year increase. Overall, three key characteristics emerged:
First, nuclear power, power grids, new energy storage, and coal-fired power have become key drivers of investment growth in major energy projects. In the first eight months of this year, investment in new energy storage projects in Xinjiang, Guangdong, Yunnan, Shandong, and Inner Mongolia all saw year-on-year growth exceeding 100%.
Second, investments in wind power, modern coal chemical industry, oil and gas storage facilities, charging and battery swapping infrastructure, and hydrogen energy have grown rapidly. Coal-to-oil/gas and coal-to-olefins projects under construction in Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia advanced steadily, while Liaoning's coal-to-gas project gradually materialized into tangible progress. Jilin's Da'an green hydrogen-ammonia synthesis integrated demonstration project commenced operations, alongside the launch of Inner Mongolia's 30-megawatt pure hydrogen gas turbine project and Jiangsu's 30-million-cubic-meter salt cavern hydrogen storage project.
Third, investments in solar power generation, integrated source-grid-load-storage systems, oil and gas exploration and development, and pumped storage hydropower have grown steadily. A series of integrated source-grid-load-storage projects in Shandong, Shanxi, Gansu, and Guangxi continue to advance. Efforts to increase reserves and boost production in large oil and gas fields are progressing steadily. The first phase of the Kenli Oilfield Cluster development project in the Bohai Sea has entered the production stage, while the Hongxing Shale Gas Field in the Jianghan Oilfield has confirmed reserves of 165 billion cubic meters.
