According to China Chemical Information Weekly, Sinopec Guangxi Petrochemical's 1.2 million tonnes/year ethylene plant has achieved a successful first start-up! This milestone advances the formation of a new petrochemical industry ecosystem in Southwest China characterized by “flagship-led, cluster-driven development.”
At 14:38 on October 26, CNPC Guangxi Petrochemical's 1.2 million-ton-per-year ethylene plant commenced feedstock injection. By 02:41 the following day, it produced qualified products, marking a successful first-time startup.
Utilizing CNPC's proprietary large-scale ethylene process technology, the facility will annually produce 1.2 million tons of polymer-grade ethylene, 616,000 tons of polymer-grade propylene, 400,000 tons of hydrotreated gasoline, and 35,000 tons of styrene. It will also yield over 20 chemical feedstocks, products, and intermediates including hydrogen, cracked C5 hydrocarbons, C9 hydrocarbons, and cracked fuel oil. Following its commissioning, the facility will enable Guangxi Petrochemical to reduce annual oil product output by 3.49 million tons while increasing chemical production by 3.06 million tons. Among these, high-end membrane materials and pipe materials will directly address domestic supply gaps, effectively alleviating the structural imbalance in China's petrochemical industry characterized by “excess oil, insufficient chemicals, and a shortage of high-end products.”
