According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), Australia's total rapeseed exports reached 180,000 tons in August 2025, a 16% increase from 155,000 tons in July, but a 44% decrease from the record 323,000 tons in August 2024. Australia's rapeseed exports in August remained concentrated in the Middle East and Asia. The UAE led the way with purchases of 63,000 tons, followed by Bangladesh with 40,000 tons, and Japan imported approximately 5,400 tons.
Notably, European buyers were largely absent in August due to the overlap with their own rapeseed harvest season, resulting in ample local supplies and reduced import demand.
Meanwhile, the 2025/26 rapeseed harvest has begun in southern Queensland, northern New South Wales, and parts of Western Australia. The Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences (ABARES) forecasts rapeseed production for this season at 6.4 million tons, slightly higher than the previous year. But independent consultancy Rastoke cut its rapeseed production forecast to 6.1 million tonnes, citing dry weather in recent weeks that has suppressed yields.
