The domestic sales market fluctuated slightly, the investment growth rate slowed down, and the industry operation was under severe pressure. Looking ahead to the year, the development situation the industry faces is still complicated and difficult. Multiple issues such as the continuation and intensification of international trade friction, the increasingly tense geopolitical situation, and the still insufficient domestic terminal consumer demand are intertwined. Enterprises are still facing many difficulties and challenges in production and operation, and the foundation for the industry to stabilize and improve still needs to be further consolidated.
01 Production
According to the data of the National Bureau of Statistics, from January to July 2025, the industrial added value of the clothing industry in China's above-scale enterprises decreased by 1.2% year-on-year, a decrease of 0.8 percentage points compared to January to June; the output of clothing in above-scale enterprises decreased by 0.29% year-on-year, a decrease of 0.69 percentage points compared to January to June.
02 Domestic Sales
According to the data of the National Bureau of Statistics, from January to July 2025, China's social consumer goods retail sales increased by 4.8% year-on-year, a slowdown of 0.2 percentage points compared to January to June. Among them, the retail sales of clothing in enterprises above the limit increased by 2.2% year-on-year, a slowdown of 0.3 percentage points compared to January to June. In July alone, the cumulative retail sales of clothing in enterprises above the limit increased by 0.2% year-on-year, a slowdown of 1.5 percentage points compared to January to June.
According to the data of the National Bureau of Statistics, from January to July 2025, the online retail sales of physical goods increased by 6.3% year-on-year. Among them, the online retail sales of clothing increased by 1.7% year-on-year, an acceleration of 0.3 percentage points compared to January to June.
03 Export
According to the data of the General Administration of Customs of China, from January to July 2025, China's cumulative clothing and clothing accessories exports decreased by 0.3% year-on-year, a decrease of 0.1 percentage points compared to January to June. In July alone, clothing and clothing accessories exports decreased by 0.5% year-on-year, a slowdown of 1.6 percentage points compared to June.
According to China's customs data, from January to July 2025, the amount of clothing exports from our country to the United States was $18.66 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 4.8%, and the decrease was 1.2 percentage points deeper than that in the first six months. In July alone, the amount of clothing exports to the United States was $3.32 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 10.1%, and the decrease was 1.5 percentage points deeper than in June.
04 Investment
According to the data of the National Bureau of Statistics, from January to July 2025, the actual investment completed by China's clothing industry increased by 25.2% year-on-year, and the growth rate slowed down by 1.8 percentage points compared to the first six months.
05 Efficiency
According to the data of the National Bureau of Statistics, from January to July 2025, there were 136,50 enterprises in China's clothing industry with a scale above the limit ( annual main business income of 20 million RMB or more), which achieved operating income of 665.468 billion RMB, a year-on-year decrease of 2.26%, and the decrease was 0.83 percentage points wider than that in the first six months; the total profit was 25.026 billion RMB, a year-on-year decrease of 14.20%, and the decrease was 1.28 percentage points wider than that in the first six months; the operating income profit rate was only 3.76%, which was 1.15 percentage points lower than that in 2024, but 0.06 percentage points higher than that in the first six months.
