The "2025 World Steel Statistics" recently released by the World Steel Association shows that the global crude steel production in 2024 was 1.8846 billion tons, a year-on-year decrease of 1.0%. In 2024, China's crude steel production reached 1.0051 billion tons, a year-on-year decrease of 2.3%, and the proportion of global output fell from 54.0% in 2023 to 53.3%.

From the perspective of production path, the global converter steel production in 2024 accounted for 70.4%, while the electric furnace steel accounted for 29.1%, down 0.7 percentage points and up 0.5 percentage points from 2023 respectively. The global average continuous casting ratio in 2024 was 97.5%, the same as in 2023. In 2024, the global export volume of steel (finished products + semi-finished products) was 449.2 million tons, an increase of 5.1% year-on-year, and the proportion of exports to output was 25.5%, an increase of 1.5 percentage points from 2023.

From the perspective of apparent consumption, the global apparent consumption of finished steel in 2024 was 1.7424 billion tons, a year-on-year decrease of 2.0%. The national apparent consumption of finished steel included in the statistics is different. Among them, the apparent consumption of finished steel in China dropped from 905.1 million tons in 2023 to 856.6 million tons, a decrease of 5.4%. In 2024, China's apparent steel consumption accounted for 49.2% of the world, down 1.7 percentage points from 2023.
