SunSirs: China SBR Market has slightly Rebounded
May 14 2025 09:03:59SunSirs(Selena)

Recently (5.1-5.12), the market for SBR has slightly rebounded. According to the Commodity Market Analysis System of SunSirs, as of May 12th, the price of SBR in the East China market was 12,233 RMB/ton, an increase of 0.89% from 12,125 RMB/ton at the beginning of the month. The price of raw material butadiene has slightly increased, and the price of styrene has narrowed, supporting the cost of SBR. Downstream tire production has decreased, weakening the support for rigid demand for SBR; The production of SBR has slightly decreased. The market reported a slight rebound, and as of the 12th, the mainstream market price of 1502 SBR in Fushun, Jihua, Yangzi, and Qilu in East China was around 12,100-12,400 RMB/ton.

Recently (5.1-5.12), the price of raw material butadiene has slightly increased, and the price of styrene has narrowed, supporting the cost of SBR. According to the Commodity Market Analysis System of SunSirs, as of May 12th, the price of butadiene was 9,333 RMB/ton, an increase of 2.94% from 9,066 RMB/ton at the beginning of May; As of May 12th, the price of styrene was 7,676 RMB/ton, a decrease of 0.05% from 7,680 RMB/ton at the beginning of the month.

Supply and demand side: Recently (5.1-5.12), downstream tire production has significantly decreased, which has weakened the support for the SBR market. As of May 9th, the operating load of semi steel tires in domestic tire enterprises is around 58%; The operating load of all steel tires in tire enterprises in Shandong region is about 45%.

From a fundamental perspective, analysts from SunSirs believe that the current cost of SBR will receive some support; The current production of SBR has slightly decreased, and there is not much pressure on the supply side. However, there are plans for new equipment to be put into operation in the later stage, which will create certain pressure on the supply side; Downstream tire production has significantly decreased, resulting in weak support for SBR. Overall, it is expected that the SBR market will continue to consolidate weakly in the short term.
