Price trend

According to the Commodity Analysis System of SunSirs, the price of flake caustic soda had risen this week. At the beginning of the week, the average market price in Shandong was 3,383.33 RMB/ton, and on the weekend it was 3,433.33 RMB/ton, with a price increase of 1.48% and a decrease of 5.07% compared to the same period last year.

On March 10th, the chlor alkali index was 998 points, unchanged from the previous day, a decrease of 53.10% from the highest point in the cycle of 2,128 points (2021-10-24), and an increase of 40.17% from the lowest point of 712 points on January 5th, 2016. (Note: The cycle refers to 2011-12-01 present)

Upstream caustic soda

According to the Commodity Analysis System of SunSirs, the price of caustic soda had remained stable this week, with an average market price of 781 RMB/ton from the beginning of the week to the weekend, a decrease of 10.84% compared to the same period last year. The price of caustic soda in Shandong region was temporarily stable, with a mainstream market price of around 730-800 RMB/ton for 32% ion exchange membrane caustic soda. The price of caustic soda in Jiangsu region was temporarily stable, with a mainstream market price of around 820-880 RMB/ton for 32% ion exchange membrane caustic soda.

Market outlook

SunSirs’ analysts believe that the price of flake caustic soda had slightly increased this week, and downstream demand had recovered. However, actual demand was limited. As of March 8th, enterprises were actively shipping, and overall, the price of flake caustic soda may maintain to be consolidated in the short term, depending on downstream market demand.
