SunSirs: Carbon Black Prices Fluctuated and Declined Slightly This Week (April 3-9)
April 12 2023 10:37:57SunSirs(John)

Price trend

According to the data monitored by SunSirs, the domestic carbon black N220 quoted 10,766 yuan/ton on April 9. This week, the domestic carbon black market price fell by 200-300 yuan/ton.

Analysis review

Cost side: This week's price was mixed with rise and fall, and price was flat compared to the same period of last week. In the early stage, the market price of coal tar dropped significantly to a low point, and the downstream buying sentiment was strong. The stock on the market declined rapidly, and the price rose slightly. As of April 9, the price of coal tar in Ningxia had risen by 50 yuan/ton, and the price of coal tar in Shanxi had risen by 30 yuan/ton.

Supply and demand side: As of the 9th, the overall operating rate of carbon black enterprises had remained stable, with most carbon black enterprises maintaining normal operating levels and some factories’ equipments maintenance. Due to the weak prices of raw materials, downstream enterprises were mostly bearish on the aftermarket of carbon black, resulting in weak supply and demand in the carbon black market.

In terms of downstream tire companies, the overall operating rate remained good, but due to the continuous decline in carbon black prices, companies had a strong bearish atmosphere towards the carbon black market, and their acceptance of the decline in carbon black prices was limited. There are currently no positive signs on the market, and the market may still operate weakly.

Market outlook

Overall, raw material prices fluctuated at a low level, and support for carbon black prices weakened. Although major downstream tire companies were operating well, they were bearish on the carbon black market and there is currently no positive trend on the market. It is expected that carbon black will operate stably and tend to be weaker in the short term.
