SunSirs: The Market Price of Chloroform Rose Slightly (August 12-26)

According to the data of SunSirs, the chloroform market rose slightly since half a month (8.12-8.26). As of August 26, the price of chloroform bulk water in Shandong remained at 2,787 RMB/ton, a slight increase of 1.36% from 2,750 RMB/ton in the middle of the month.

Analysis review

Since chloroform fell to the lowest level this year in July, the chloroform market had bottomed out and rebounded with a strong mentality. In addition, with the recent rise in costs and the demand for refrigerants in high temperature weather, merchants had a strong willingness to support prices. However, the upward range was limited due to supply-side constraints.

Since half a month (8.12-8.26), the domestic methane chloride construction increased slightly compared with the previous period, and the overall operation was at a high level. There was still pressure on the supply side, which restricted the upward range of the chloroform market.

In the past half month, the methanol spot fluctuated higher, and the cost impact strengthened. According to the understanding of SunSirs, as of August 26, the spot price of methanol was 2,568 RMB/ton, an increase of 4.42% from 2,460 RMB/ton in the middle of the month.

Under the high temperature weather for nearly half a month, the after-sales demand for refrigerants was supported; but as the high temperature weather gradually ends, the demand for refrigerant R22 will gradually decline, and the subsequent support for chloroform is expected to be insufficient.

Market outlook

The methane chloride data analyst of SunSirs believes that the pressure on the domestic supply side is still there; coupled with the arrival of the off-season of refrigerants, it is expected that if the cost of chloroform fails to rise in the later period, the chloroform will fall steadily and slightly.
