SunSirs: Demand Was Sluggish, Polyester Staple Fiber Prices Were Lower (June 29)

According to the price monitoring of SunSirs, the average spot market price of polyester staple fiber in China on June 29 was 8,851 RMB/ton, which was the same as the previous trading day and increased by 24.99% year-on-year.

On the 29th, the main domestic staple fiber futures contract closed at 7,924 in early trading, down 1.76% from the settlement price of the previous trading day, and the settlement price was 8,014. The staple fiber raw material futures all closed down on the 29th, the main force of PTA fell by 2.70%, and the main force of ethylene glycol fell by 0.93%.

Analysis review

The Group of Seven further suppressed Russia's oil exports, the U.S. oil inventories were expected to fall month-on-month last week, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates warned that it was almost impossible to increase production, and international oil prices rose for the third day in a row. However, with the advent of the traditional off-season, the textile terminal demand was weak, and the polyester industry chain rebounded slightly for two days and weakened again on the 29th.

Recently, several sets of PTA units have been restarted, and the supply has increased. The downstream demand is insufficient in the off-season, and the follow-up needs to see the order situation of "Golden September and Silver October". The main port inventory of ethylene glycol continued to accumulate to a new high in 20 months, the futures fell sharply by more than 15% in half a month, and the spot price also fell by more than 7%.

Under the drag of sluggish demand and a sharp decline in cost, polyester staple fiber has also recovered sharply from the previous increase recently, and the supply pressure may further increase after the restart of some maintenance devices in July. Affected by the lower operating rate and weak demand recently, the operating rate of pure polyester yarn and polyester-cotton yarn factories has declined, the inventory has remained high, and the price has declined slightly.

Market outlook

It is expected that polyester staple fiber will fluctuate to be weak in the short term.
