SunSirs: Diethylene Glycol Market Was Weak This Week (December 5-9)
December 12 2022 10:04:34SunSirs(John)

Price trend

According to the monitoring data of SunSirs, as of December 9, 2022, the market price of diethylene glycol was 6,050 RMB/ton. Compared with December 5, 2022 (the reference price of diethylene glycol was 6,116.67 RMB/ton), the price decreased by about 67 RMB/ton, or 1.09%.

Analysis review

It can be seen from the data monitoring of SunSirs that this week (12.05-12.09), the oil price fell sharply and demand was poor, and the diethylene glycol market was weak. During the week, the price was stable and fell. Some diethylene glycol suppliers lowered the ex warehouse price of diethylene glycol by about 100-150 RMB/ton, and the prices of some suppliers remained stable.

This week, the arrival of imported cargoes was limited, and the port inventory was still low and volatile. As of December 8, the port inventory in East China was about 182500 tons, a decrease of 37500 tons compared with last week, a decrease of 17.05%. The supply was expected to remain tight, but the U.S. refined oil warehouse stock increased significantly, and the U.S. Federal Reserve was worried about the continuation of the aggressive interest rate increase policy, the crude oil futures price fell sharply, and the cost end support weakened.

The operating rate of the downstream unsaturated resin industry was still low, and the demand side of diethylene glycol was not performing well. Most of the products were shipped according to the market. The average shipment of Zhangjiagang mainstream reservoir area (12.05-12.08) was 1,255 tons.

On the whole, the support on the cost side was weak, the demand performance was poor, and the diethylene glycol market price range was mainly volatile. As of December 9, the market price of diethylene glycol was around 5,700-6,200 RMB/ton.

Market outlook

As of September 9, the arrival of diethylene glycol shipments was limited, and the inventory fluctuated at a low level, but the cost side support was weak, the downstream demand was unstable, and the terminal shipment still affected the market mentality. The diethylene glycol data engineer of SunSirs believed that in the short term, the diethylene glycol market would adjust in a narrow range. More attention should be paid to the terminal shipments and subsequent arrivals.
