SunSirs: Supported by Cost, the Chloroform Market Was on the Rise (September 2-10)
September 13 2022 09:29:43SunSirs(John)

Price trend

According to the data of SunSirs, the chloroform market was on the rise this week (9.2-9.10). As of September 10, the price of chloroform bulk water in Shandong was 3,037 RMB/ton, a slight increase of 4.29% from last Friday's 2,917 RMB/ton.

Analysis review

Since chloroform fell to the low level this year in July, the chloroform market had a strong mentality of bottoming out and rebounding. In addition, the price of raw material methanol rose sharply recently, and the cost support was strong, and some companies started to reduce the burden. Although the demand for refrigerant R22 fell, the support for chloroform was weak, but chloroform manufacturers had a strong willingness to support prices.

This week (9.2-9.10), the domestic methane chloride construction declined slightly as a whole, and Jinling and Jinyi had a total of 740,000 tons/year of methane chloride plants operating at a reduced load, which supported the chloroform market.

This week (9.2-9.10) the spot price of methanol rose sharply, and the support of the cost of chloroform became stronger. According to the understanding of SunSirs, as of September 10, the spot price of methanol was 2,714 RMB/ton, an increase of 6.22% from 2,553 RMB/ton on Friday. The domestic methanol market fluctuated higher. The main reason was that there was a short-term shortage of supply and a short-term increase in demand, the downstream receiving price rose sharply, and there was a need for stocking. The attitude of traders was more stable and positive. The quotations of ports and major mainland manufacturers increased one after another. Some manufacturers bid well, and most of the transactions were made at the premium starting price. However, the increase in freight rates restrained the increase in the mainland areas.

With the gradual end of the high temperature weather, the price of the refrigerant R22 rose and the start of construction was reduced, and the demand for chloroform was relatively weak.

Market outlook

The methane chloride data analyst of SunSirs believes that the domestic methane chloride start-up has declined slightly, and the price of raw materials has risen sharply, which supports chloroform. However, after the high temperature, the demand for refrigerants started to decline and the demand side is weak. It is expected that chloroform will rise slightly in the later stage due to the support of costs.
