SunSirs: The Chloroform Market Was Strong This Week (May 17-21)

Price trend

According to the data monitoring of SunSirs, the chloroform market was strong this week (5.17-5.21). The price of chloroform on the third day of the week was 3,995 RMB/ton, and the price of chloroform on the weekend was 4,030 RMB/ton, an overall slight increase of 0.88%.

Analysis review

This week, the overall operating rate of domestic methane chloride plants was stable, and the supply pressure was not large. According to SunSirs, the Jinling Dongying plant was operating at full capacity after the overhaul, Dongyue Chemical’s methane chloride plant was started by 50% to 60%, Jinmao Chemical’s methane chloride plant was shutting down, and Luxi Chemical was started near 90%, Jiangsu Liwen , Jiangxi Liwen started construction at full capacity, Meilan Juhua started near 70%.

The price of raw liquid chlorine was at a low level, the price of methanol dropped slightly, and the cost support weakened. According to SunSirs, as of May 21, the price of methanol was 2,717/ RMB/ton, a slight downward adjustment from 2,737 RMB/ton at the beginning of the week; as of May 21, the mainstream ex-factory price of liquid chlorine for tank trucks in Shandong was reported around 1,150 RMB/ton.

Finally, foreign trade orders for downstream refrigerants remained stable this week. As the weather turns warmer, sales in domestic trade are expected to increase. The overall start-up increased slightly compared with the previous period, which had some support for chloroform.

Market outlook

Methane Chloride Data Analyst believes that the current cost impact is mainly negative, but the downstream refrigerant has certain support for chloroform. It is expected that the price of chloroform will fluctuate within a narrow range in the short term.
