On September 30, the SBR commodity index was 29.39, down 71.63% from 103.60 (2011-09-08), and 16.12% higher than the lowest point of 25.31 on April 07, 2020. In September, the start-up of SBR decreased, and the price of styrene butadiene was promoted by the supply side. In September, the price of raw materials went up, especially the high price of butadiene. As a result of the pressure of cost, some styrene butadiene units started operation and even stopped production for a short time. According to SunSirs, in September, Jilin Chemical and Shenhua units were put into operation with reduced load, and the Bridgestone styrene butadiene unit was shut down for a short time. The overall operating rate of styrene butadiene rubber was around 60%. The favorable cost and supply promoted petrochemical manufacturers to raise the price of styrene butadiene. According to the monitoring of SunSirs, the ex-factory price of 1502 styrene in northeast Jilin Chemical Co., Ltd. of PetroChina was 9,100 RMB/ ton, an overall increase of 800 RMB/ ton compared with that at the beginning of the month, and the offers of traders followed.

With the increase of start up of downstream tire factories, the demand for SBR forms a support. It is understood that as of the end of September, the operation rate of semi steel tire has risen to 70%, and that of all steel tire has risen to 75%. According to the business agency, in August 2020, the domestic rubber tire outer tire output was 77.104 million, with a month on month increase of 3.27%; from January to August, the cumulative output was 501.085 million, with a month on month increase of 18.07%.

In September, the price of styrene butadiene raw materials rose, and the cost of SBR formed a certain support. According to the monitoring of SunSirs, the domestic butadiene price rose in September. At the beginning of the month, the domestic butadiene price was 5,612 RMB/ ton, which was 6,288 RMB/ ton at the end of the month, which was 12.05% higher than that at the beginning of the month; the styrene price rose in September, with the price at the beginning of the month at 5,300 RMB/ ton, at the end of the month at 5,450 RMB/ ton, which was 2.83% higher than that at the beginning of the month.

Market forecast: business SunSirs analysts believe that, at present, the price of raw materials is high, and the demand side has increased. Overall, the price of China SBR will remain high in the later period.
