SunSirs: Inquiries Increase, Chinese Heavy Rare Earth Prices Rise
May 20 2020 08:17:57SunSirs(Linda)

Recently, the price of dysprosium terbium in Chinese rare earth market has continued to rise, and the downstream inquiry has increased. According to the rare earth sector index of SunSirs, the rare earth index on May 19 was 334 points, an increase of 1 point from May 18, a decrease of 66.60% from the highest point in the cycle of 1,000 points (2011-December-06), an increase of 23.25% compared lowest point of 271 on September 13, 2015. (Note: The period refers to 2011-December-01 to present).

As of May 19th, the price of dysprosium oxide in domestic rare earths has increased by 20,000 yuan / ton to 1.87 million yuan / ton; the price of dysprosium ferroalloy has increased by 10,000 yuan / ton to 1.84 million yuan / ton, and terbium oxide and metal terbium have varying degrees of increase.

In Chinese rare earth storage and storage plan, medium and heavy rare earths account for a large proportion of annual production, which is expected to have a greater impact on the supply and demand and prices of medium and heavy rare earths. Considering that the current Myanmar customs closure still has a tight impact on the domestic supply of medium and heavy rare earths, once the implementation of the purchasing and storage plan as scheduled will have a greater impact on the tight supply and demand of heavy rare earth dysprosium and terbium, as well as price increases. Recently, inquiries have increased, and prices of heavy rare earths have increased; coupled with the resumption of production and the recovery of the terminal new energy vehicle market, the demand for permanent magnet materials downstream of rare earth manufacturers has increased, and the boom of praseodymium and neodymium oxide has also driven gadolinium oxide and holmium oxide and other material prices.

The Ministry of Letters issued the ‘Notice on Doing a Good Job in Implementing the Policy for Benefiting Enterprises in the Rare Earth Industry’, saying that the Rare Earth Office entrusted the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association and China Rare Earth Industry Association to sort out and summarize the policy documents suitable for the declaration of rare earth companies, forming Compilation of production-related support policies. The policy is favorable to support the development of the rare earth industry. At the same time, Sino-US relations are somewhat loosened. The key products of rare earth trade between China and the United States are of great significance. National policy is conducive to the balance of supply and demand in the rare earth industry. The supply of the rare earth market has been normal recently, but the demand has not been significantly favorable. The price of the rare earth market has dropped slightly.

SunSirs analysts expect prices in the later rare earth market would continue to rise.
