SunSirs: DME Operated in Shock in May
June 02 2023 10:26:01SunSirs(John)

Price trend

In May, the domestic DME market fluctuated and operated, while the Henan market struggled to rise. According to data monitoring from SunSirs, the average price of DME in the Henan market was 4,090 RMB/ton on May 1st, and 4,125 RMB/ton on May 31st. The monthly increase was 0.86%, and an increase of 0.61% compared to the same period last year.

Analysis review

In May, the DME market in Henan Province experienced a volatile trend, with overall prices slightly rising. After the May Day holiday, the DME market as a whole rose, and the Henan region followed the trend to push it up. Downstream centralized stocking before the holiday, and DME enterprises effectively reduced inventory. After the holiday, there was a strong attitude of favoring prices, and prices were slightly pushed up. Subsequently, the market entered a stage of digestion and consolidation. With the end of downstream stage replenishment, demand return to weakness, and the focus of some factories' transactions shifted downwards. At the same time, accompanied by a significant decline in the prices of related liquefied gas products, the news was bearish, and DME in Henan region gave up profits to sell goods, but the effect was very small, and trading was weak.

The raw material methanol market was weak and declining. From May 1st to 31st, the average price of methanol at East China ports in the domestic methanol market dropped from 2,423 RMB/ton to 2,156 RMB/ton, a 10.97% decrease in price during the cycle.

Market outlook

Overall, the price of methanol showed a significant decline, with no signs of improvement in market demand. The supply side of DME in the future will not change much, and it is expected that there is room for a downward trend for the DME market in the short term.
